Valley Patriots falls to Blair Bears

By: Reporter Eli Schleicher on 11/3/17

On November 3rd, 2006 the Nate Brodie and the Valley Patriots were getting ready to face their rivals Willow Clifton and the Blair bears. Nate Brodie was the best quarterback in the state. He recently found out that he had to throw a football and make in a target during halftime at a patriots game. If he makes it in the target he gets one million dollars. Since ESPN released the news about this he has become very popular. In Nate’s pregame warmup he was looking like he was nervous which is odd for him because he is one of the most calm players in his division.

During the Valley Patriots warm-ups you could hear them talking about the Blair Bears. They were trash talking and also talking about how they made an awesome comeback last year. Half way through warm-ups Nate Brodie the quarterback started talking about Willie Clifton. He was the Blair’s starting nose gaurd and he was one of the better ones in the state to according to ESPN. Right before the game I asked Nate Brodie how he felt going into the game. His response was, “I feel very nervous because there is a lot of pressure on me.

The Patriots got the ball to start the game. The ran two run plays for their first two plays. This is where it went downhill for Nate. An eyewitness said, “On the third play right before he snapped the ball he looked into the crowd looking for someone but didn’t seem to find them. He looke worried but just looked at the defense and snapped the ball.” He looked right, then swiftly turned his head left and threw the ball. Only one problem for Nate, he threw the ball to the blairs nose gaurd Willie Clifton who was unblocked. He intercepted the ball and ran to his own end zone. By half time the score was seven to seven.

“When the second half started Nate really couldn’t pull anything together.” Say their coach Mr. Davenport. The Blair bears scored making it fourteen to seven then the patriots scored later but missed the extra point so the score was fourteen to thirteen Bears. There were two minutes left in the game. Patriots driving down the field. Then with five seconds left Nate Brodie snapped the ball. He took a few steps back then fired a shot to his receiver. He over threw it by at least ten yards. That was it Blair won fourteen to thirteen.

I had a postgame interview with Nate Brodie and I asked him, “Was there something wrong with you today because you had a off day today.” He answered, “Today as Willie Clifton was walking back to his bench after the pix six he said to me ‘Who wants to be a millionaire yo’ which sort of threw me of and I was out of it because of what he said.” Later I found Willie Clifton and I asked him, “Do you think when you said ‘Do you want to be a millionaire yo’ do you think that you’re words messed with him.” Willie responded. “I do think that I messed with him and he just couldn’t stop worrying about his throw.”
